Church of St Ursula

Among the oldest churches in Polizzi is that of Sant'Orsola, already in existence in 1386 under the name of Santa Maria di Presti Micheli. The building housed the confraternity of Sant'Orsola from 1496 onwards. It was enlarged in 1590 and became a parish church in 1622. The building, with a single nave and side chapels, has two portals: the central one in Renaissance style and the side one in Gothic style.

Inside one may admire the painting of 1600 depicting the Immaculate Conception by Friar Antonio da Conversano; the 19th-century Crucifix donated by Ciro Marzullo and commissioned for the Abbey of Santa Croce; and the wooden statue of Saint Ursula by an unknown artist of the early 16th century, probably painted by Joannes Matta. The church also houses the statue of the Madonna of the Rosary with Saint Dominic, originally from the church of Santo Spirito of the Dominican Fathers, attributed to the Gangi sculptor Filippo Quattrocchi and dated to the last quarter of the 18th century.
