The project, which began in 2012, grew out of the wish to find a solution that could be applied on a large scale to the problem of preserving and promoting architectural heritage. These are unique and precious assets, an expression of our culture and our history, yet more and more often we witness their decay or even their destruction, with no possibility of restoration or reconstruction. Preserving architecture digitally is therefore essential to protect the «memory» of a building, keeping it accessible to future generations.
Only a very few countries have begun this process of digitisation, and almost always it has been limited to the most important or representative buildings. digitARCH aims to spread this practice widely, including buildings of lesser historical and artistic importance but rich in meaning for their community.
