Church of St Catherine

The foundation date of this church is unknown, but it is mentioned in 1621. The confraternity of the Madonna del Rifugio was founded here in 1750 [...].

Inside it preserves two very fine wooden sculptures of great interest. The first, of Saint Roch, by an unknown Madonie wood carver and dated 1576 (originally from the Chapel of the same saint in the now destroyed church of Santa Maria del Castello), is decorated with foliate motifs on a gold ground. The second, of Saint John the Baptist, is by an unknown Madonie wood carver of the first half of the 16th century (it was first in the Commenda and later in the church of San Giovanni). Nor should one overlook the 18th-century canvas depicting the Madonna and Child, in which the Virgin is seated on a bank of clouds with two winged cherub heads at her feet [...].
