Church of St Pancras

The year of foundation remains unknown, although the church is thought to have been built at the end of the 12th century. It was the spiritual centre of the Byzantine community throughout the 16th century and since 1598 has housed the confraternity of the same name. The building, which has a single nave, has recently been restored. On the high altar is the altarpiece depicting Saint Pancras and the Virgin interceding with the Trinity for the souls in Purgatory.

Next to the church stands the fortress of the Torre di Leo, also known as the tower of San Pancrazio, a precious testimony to the ancient defensive system of medieval Polizzi Generosa.
